Using a kitchen Island

The beauty of having a large kitchen is the ability to incorporate the “kitchen island” into the kitchen area. The KitchenIsland can be used for several purposes to serve the family and guests visiting. The fixture often becomes the focal point for families when engaging in conversation. This is not only a gather place for families it also a gather place when company visits and your serving drinks with chips etc.

What makes a useful Kitchen Island?

The best kitchen island typically will incorporate a sink in the island in addition to the main sink you already have in your kitchen. It is also becoming essential to incorporate some fancy kitchen stools. The function of the island usually turns out to be the main place for food preparation or it acts as central area for serving food depending on the size of the meal and the amount of people being served. It is common for the kitchen island to also store an integrated dishwasher along with having cupboard space for small pots and pans. If you are able to afford to add a cook top, you may lose out on the ability to cook your meals quicker.

The cost of a Kitchen island can be expensive based on the size and the amenities that are included in the island. This is not entirely the case if you plan for a large kitchen island during a kitchen remodel. One of the things to take into consideration of the cost is the cabinet versus your other kitchen cabinets. The reason the cost is significantly more is because the contractor has to finish the island on all sides not just one. So, your counter top is viewable by 360 degrees versus your the typical cupboard is viewable at 180 degree and typically may only needs to be finished on two sides (end cap)

Types of Kitchen Islands

The home does not have to have a custom made kitchen island; they can purchase one that is easily moveable and typically is considered a discount kitchen island. Unfortunately, the moveable islands lack the ability to have the amenities you expect when you have your kitchen island made specifically for you’re your home. You lose things such as adding a sink to the island or the hidden dishwasher. The portable islands can cost anywhere from $800.00 to upwards around $1500. It’s definitely a pretty steep price to pay for something that offers a fraction what a custom made island can offer.

My kitchen is too small for an island, but there is a real island in Mark's Cove at

Looks like a good place to put a baby from the picture. Just don't accidentally throw him/her in the pot with the carrots. Aw, just joking. Nice hub.
