Why Buy a Ski Jacket

Living near lakes we love to ski and for safety purposes we always wear a ski jacket. However, it seems we go through several jackets every two years because the family is growing up. The only problems are replacing these jackets. We typically sell the old ski jackets at our yearly garage sale or we have traded them to other family and friends.

One of the problems is these ski jackets can range from anywhere between 60 to $100.00. Now if you’re a family of four and you have growing children that love to ski, water board or go tubing you could easily pay $240. Spending this amount each year until the kids get older is pretty ridiculous. You can save money and switch out your ski jacket when you’re actually skiing or doing other water sports and allow the other people use the ski jacket. The reason people like the ski jacket are because of the big orange and bulky life vests that most boats have onboard. You want everyone to be comfortable when you’re out on the water and the traditional life vests just don’t look comfortable much less feel comfortable. The problem with the old life jackets is kids don’t feel comfortable and they want to take them off. Every single state has a law requiring children to wear a life jacket. In addition to children wearing jackets you should make sure it fits properly. Children need to wear jackets that are designed for them this is why I have to continue to buy new jackets. I could not imagine what would happen if I found out my child drown because I was too cheap to buy a new jacket or was being cheap and gave them and adult size jacket. Since wearing life jackets and is one the reasons why ski jackets have become some popular is because of their style and comfort. Ski jackets offer look and comfort that was not available in prior years.

 When to buy a new Safety or Ski Jacket

1)      If they become easily waterlogged

2)      If they are faded (old orange jackets)

3)      The seams are starting to separate

4)      The jacket does not fit properly

If you’re into style like my teenage girls and boy I recommend Hyperlite or an Oneill Ski jacket. They offer several different colors and styles. I also love the Hyperlite ski jacket because they fit comfortably. These jackets also are very lightweight and are flexible which makes climbing onto tubes, your boat or a wakeboard easier. I consider Hyperlite the best ski jacket based on style, comfort & the way they fit.
