My used roller garage door

I discussed in a previous post about how I was able to use acquire a used roller garage door with all the garage door parts for free by removing it myself before it was taken to the dump. This was great until I had heard a lot of squeaking coming from one of the garage door rollers.  I was starting to become nervous because the garage door seems to get stuck when I would lift it up and down. I did what any guy would do and pulled out the can of oil & eventually the W-D 40 and started squirting them down. It seemed to work for awhile and then the squeak would return. I also had installed a garage door opener that would lift the garage door with the push of a button. These garage door openers are nice during the winter. However, anyone who has owned more than one knows these things can be finicky. Roller doors are secured to the rear  of the garage door opening which helps maximize the space for the garage and one of the benefits is it does not kick out which is ideal for short driveways.

Although I really can’t complain for getting a garage door for free; I can complain about the door lift I bought and installed myself. If you are using an automatic garage door opener and if for any reason there is downward pressure on the door prevents it from lifting it will stop half way up and the light on the door opener will start to blink. Well, if the garage door rollers are starting to fail it will prevent the opener from being able to lift the roller garage door. The door was typically low maintenance and easy to use from what the neighbor had told me. However, as my luck is maybe it was just time for me to start to put a little maintenance into the door? I decided to replace some of the old rollers which can be replaced for 2-3.00 per roller. The rollers were starting to rust and just were able easily help the garage door glide up and down with out squeaking.

Saving money with a used garage door

In the end by keeping my eye open on the opportunity to remove a garage door from someone’s house I was able to save 400-500 dollars. It only cost me and a helper some time and ordering a couple of replacement parts online to make it all worth the money saved by taking the time to remove the used roller garage door.

Where do you find adverts like this? i.e. removing yourself for free?
