Garage Door Parts

By MrPaul

The neighbor was replacing his garage with a brand new one. His garage was fine but they wanted to attach it to their home and add a room above the garage. He asked me if I wanted his garage door parts including the garage door. This was sometime ago and I of course said “yes” I typically keep what people consider crap and then I place it in my father in-laws barn. Between the crap I have in there and the crap he has I am sure we could build a house or stock a small hardware store with the parts and tools we have purchased at auctions over the years. My neighbor also said that if I decided against using the garage door and the parts I could sell it and he wouldn’t be offended. I started thinking about it. A garage door hinge costs about 8.00, the garage door extension spring for 140lbs for the 9x8ft garage door costs about $20.00, the weather stripping for the garage door cost another $20.00. I don’t know if I would be able to use or sell the current weather strip. The bottom seal on the door also costs 25.00 bucks. The garage door rollers cost about 5 bucks a piece. I looked around online and it looks like I could buy a whole garage door rebuild kit for about $70.00. This would include all the things I would need if I decided to actually use his garage door. I am pretty cheap and would want to use the original parts. However, since the garage door is free I suppose I could pay for a garage rebuild it kit. I was quite impressed with everything you get for $70.00.

5 #1 hinges

2 #2 hinges

2 #3 hinges

2 #4 hinges

2 #5 hinges

2 Residential top brackets

2 Residential bottom brackets

2 400 8-Drums (I have no idea what this is) and you get more. You get the gist of it. Since I have never personally put up a garage door I have no idea if I would actually need all these garage door parts. The only thing I really know is that you should be aware of the torsion spring can kill people if they don’t know what they are doing. So I need to do allot before I take my garage door parts and try to install a new garage door. From what I read it seems like it pretty easy after you put up the brackets you just start installing the garage door in sections. I never really thought about the door coming in sections. I know they are in sections because they move up and down. However, until you take on apart you don’t see the section side of a garage door.
